Mt. Hood National Forest Cabin Owners Meeting This June

If you are a cabin owner in the Mt. Hood National Forest and want to know what is happening with the Mt. Hood Forest Homeowner's Association, there is your chance.

 

The Mt. Hood Annual Meeting for the Mt. Hood Forest Homeowner's Association will be held, SATURDAY, JUNE 20th at the ZigZag Ranger Station.

 

The meeting will cover an open discussion regarding the “Call to Action” options as well as the following agenda.

1.      CUFFA battle (Coalition 2)

2.      New Permit Language – what does it mean?

3.       Recap of national convention

4.      Snow plow permits

5.      Road maintenance

6.        Other pertinent topics

Home Equity Declines on Mt. Hood

The latest numbers show home appreciation and home equity declines in the Portland Metro/Vancouver/Beaverton area. Here is the chart:

Look at the impact of 2006-2008, probably through refis and home equity loans. Yikes! Although this is a broad group and the Vancouver area with new construction has probably made these statistics worse than they really are, it's interesting. I am surprised at the median downpayment amount.

Naturally, as Portland goes, our area goes. I don't have the actual numbers for our Mt. Hood area.

Credit Score Impact of foreclosures, Bankruptcy, and Short Sales

 

What does a foreclosure, bankruptcy, deed in lieu or short sale do to your credit score?

 

Foreclosure, or a Deed in Lieu, which has the same effect as a "foreclosure" will drop your credit score between 200 and 300 points.

 

If you have a Notice of Default (NOD)-a foreclosure is started- this will be reported to credit agencies as a foreclosure in process and it will show up as a foreclosure for credit scores. This will be a 200-300 point hit also.

 

A mortgage broker in southern California, Catherine Coy said. "The effect on a consumer's credit report -- foreclosure vs. short sale -- is the difference between being hit by a train or a bus," in speaking about borrowers who are a few months in arrears.

What about buying a home again?

 

Foreclosure will cause a three to five year wait for a new loan.

 

Bankruptcy is now a four year wait for a new loan.

 

For a short sale, best case is getting your short sale classified as “settled” from your lender. You may be able to get a loan in two years vs. four years.

SOUND FAMILIAR?

How many times have you told a friend or associate about a bold new idea for succeeding, only to have them shoot down the idea? How often do you hear a parent tell their child, "You can't do that!" or, "You're too little (or too short or too ugly)." With just a word, a child's future can be stunted. The alternative is to believe in yourself. Take a look at a few of those "You'll never amount to anything" comments made to the wrong people:

"You have a perfect voice for broadcasting, but you should get a job as a secretary. We're not using women." - What announcers for NBC told Sally Jesse Raphael when she applied for a job after graduation from Columbia University.

"It's a cutthroat business and you've got no chance of success." - So said an accountant for Estee Lauder, founder of a multibillion-dollar cosmetics empire.

"You have a nice voice, but it's nothing special." - That's what a teacher told Diana Ross after she auditioned for a part in a high school musical.

"It's too hard to crack into the late-night ratings. Television isn't ready for a black talk show host. This is America and you can forget it." - That's some conventional wisdom offered to Arsenio Hall prior to his acceptance of Paramount's offer to host a late-night talk show.

A dream, an idea, a vision of greatness - all can be shattered by a word or two from a total stranger. If you are the one with a dream, keep it to yourself as you methodically achieve all that you desire. If it's another who tells you theirs - encourage them to nurture it to fruition. Remember Thoreau's thoughts on this: "If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them."

Mt. Hood National Forest Homeowner's Annual Meeting

Attention Mt. Hood National Forest cabin owners! There will be an informative annual meeting on June 20th at the Zig Zag Ranger Station at 12:45 PM. The barbeque will be at 12 nooon.

Guest speakers will be discussing the CUFFA fight and other pertinant issues concerning cabin owners. Last year 150 cabin owners showed up for this event and this year promises to be an even larger group of owners involved.

Collins Lake Condo Lawsuit is Settled

The Collins Lake Condo Homeowners in Government Camp have been battling a lawsuit for some time and as of March 30, 2009 it appears a settlement has been reached. A defective construction has caused severe damage issues since construction was completed.

The remedy is reconstruction of the units-roofs mainly, which will begin May 1st through October-November depending how it goes. The entire resort will be shut down during this time frame to expedite repairs in a timely and efficient manner.

This home will not last so act quickly. It's the best location on the mountain just down from the Resort with 27 holes of golf!

FICTION OR NON-FICTION?

Fast-forward your life 20, 30, even 40 years. Now . . . imagine someone writing a book of your life story. Think of the possibilities. Would it be motivational, a mystery perhaps, or even science fiction? What about reference, a novel, true crime, short story, or an expose? Would it be found in the children's section of the library, the reference section, or under biographies?

Wow - the possibilities are endless. The good news is - YOU are the lead character, and get to make all the choices! Close your eyes and visualize how it would read. Assume that the author is an unrelated third-party who knows every detail. That's a scary thought, isn't it?

If the chapters were written in chronological order, which ones would make the best reading? Undoubtedly, the ones from age 12-20 would provide some interesting material. From 20 to 40 would be excellent transitional chapters with lots of "Ah-ha!"s and course changes. The final chapter may be the most revealing, however. Think how many readers like to skip to the end to see how the book ends.

If you could skip to the end of your own book, how would it read? Summarizing the entire book, would you say it was a thriller, a shocker, a spell-binder, a tragedy, a romance, or an inspiration?

Your life is a book waiting to be written - write it well!
