Mt. Hood Market Information on Sales for January 2013

by Liz Warren

I believe I had a little whiplash from the drop in number of sales in January 2013 compared to the run up in the last six months of 2012! January totals came in at four sales. After months of 10 to 14 sales per month it appears new tax policy or the fiscal cliff put a big brake on the run up towards the end of the year causing a little downturn.

Mt. Hood area salesinformation for January 2013

This chart from RMLS compares numbers from the same month one year ago. Most experts are saying that 2013 will be a big year for sales as any buyer who wants to take advantage of good rates needs to act right now. By the end of 2013 we could see an increase in rates of nearly 1%! If you are looking to purchase your Mt. Hood getaway, now is the time to act!

Check Your Credit Report

by Liz Warren

Recent reports by the FTC are finding that between 10 and 21% of consumers have inaccuracies in their credit reports costing them higher interest rates for any purchases that need credit! That could be 42 Million people!  A recent 60 Minutes program brought this to light last Sunday and here is an article from Business Insider that discusses the specifics.

One of the most important issues that came to light is that it is difficult to dispute errors on your report and it is a lengthy process. Be sure and check your free credit report from all three credit agencies at annualcreditreport.com.. If you find an error, take action to remedy the mistake as soon as you can and have patience.

If you’re purchasing a home in the Mt. Hood area this could impact your monthly payment substantially. With the new CFPB Consumer Finance Protection Bureau rolling out their guides for low risk mortgages your credit score will become even more critical in getting the best interest rate for your purchase.

Animals in Your Backyard?

by Liz Warren

Have you ever seen some funny animal tracks in the snow that you can't quite figure out? Did you hear a noise on your deck at night and wonder what is wondering around outside? Here is a handy app for your iphone to look up what's in your backyard from Critter Control. You can visit the Critter Control web site and look up all kinds of Mt. Hood creatures from crows and bats to pack rats and raccoons that are in our neighborhoods and forested Mt. Hood Villages.

This web site even has audio and photos of the animals and birds. No bears were listed in the animal section and we know there have been more than a few bears seen in our area. They particularly like the Still Creek Inn's garbage cans.

I was fortunate enough to see my first bear up on Road 27 about three years ago. My daughter saw her first bear at age 11 walking through our yard near the Resort at the Mountain golf course.

Enjoy this Critter Control web site for tips on wildlife control in your neighborhood.
