Have you heard of the Sandy River Water Trail? This is 38 miles of the Sandy River starting in our Mt. Hood area and flowing down to the Columbia River. This site helps with maps, suggested sections of the river to use dependent upon your ability to canoe, kayak, and raft. Check out this handy reference site for the Sandy River Water Trail.
Are we ready? It's that time of year again where the mountain turns a little bit crazy with wacky costumes and vans decorated with clever themes and distractions starting August 27th! It's the yearly Hood to Coast Relay from Mt. Hood to Seaside. Details here.
Interested in information about the removal of Marmot Dam? Sources say the results are amazing as far as the fish numbers coming back...nearly double what the predictions were calculated! Coming up this August 21st there's a presentation at the Marmot Dam area on what happened to the silt from the dam removal.

Music lovers on the mountain are disappointed to hear the news that the Timberline Mountain Music Series of free concerts has been cancelled this season.
Guess what! The forest service has received 4.25 million dollars of stimulus money. Some of this money will be used to work on the infrastructure of Timberline Lodge. Some of this work will be done this summer at Timberline therefore halting the concert series due to construction.
The new principle, Alex Leaver is from Patton Middle School in the McMinnville School
District! Details may be found at the Oregon Trail Welches Website:

Welcome to the Mountain Alex Leaver!
You know its summer on the mountain when the arty funky buses pull into the Hoodland shopping center filled with kids who swamp local stores. These kids are from all over who visit our area to attend ski and snowboarding camps.
Shawn White, who won Gold in the 2010 Canadian Olympics for half pipe, brought untold publicity to the Mt. Hood area with our year round summer skiing and boarding. This was one of the areas he trained at throughout his career and we garnered great advertising for the Palmer Glacier, Timberline, and all our surrounding burbs of Government Camp, Welches, Rhododendron and Brightwood. We have two re-known camps in our area, Windells, in Brightwood and High Cascade in Government Camp. Shawn attended Windells.
Here is an article in OregonLive that gives more details on our summer treasure. At nearly $1500-$1800 per week for campers to attend, this gives a major shot in the arm economically to local business owners who garner the spending of the kids and often their parents who vacation in our state while their kids are in camp.
Mt. Hood has seen its share of business closures due to tough economic times so this is a welcome reprieve and a shot of cash for many of our smaller businesses!
It's a big project and it's about to begin! There were several appeals recently for the new construction of the Sandy High School but they were all denied and contruction is slated to begin. The official groundbreaking will begin next Wednesday at 6:00 pm on Bell street. This will be a huge assett to the community.
The Sandy Planning Commission has approved the land use application for the new construction of the Sandy High School. Details can be found here from a recent Sandy Post article. Trees will start coming down soon. This quick approval will save thousands by getting started in the dry summer season vs. delays in the fall!
